In case you need any reminder of how much people love Minecraft and how successful it has been, today, Mojang and Microsoft announced that the series has sold 122 million copies, and has 55 million unique players.

Let me repeat that: 122 million copies. That's more than the total population of France and England combined, and roughly 22 million more than the total number of Wii's sold, and 47 million more than Grand Theft Auto V has sold. Behind only Tetris, it is the best selling game of all time.

As you may remember, back in June of last year, Microsoft confirmed the game had sold 100 million copies, and had 40 million unique players, meaning it has sold 22 million copies in the last (roughly) 8 months, and has grown by 10 million in the unique monthly players' category.

Microsoft currently own the Minecraft franchise and Mojang, after acquiring the IP and its developer in 2014 for $2.5 billion USD.
