Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, Sony, and San Diego Studio announced today that it has re-upped its contract to continue working on the MLB The Show franchise for multiple years. However, the biggest news regarding this extension is that the series will apparently no longer be confined only to PlayStation hardware. As mentioned in the press release from MLB, the annualized baseball franchise will start appearing on other platforms in a little under two years. "In addition, the historic expansion of the long-standing partnerships will bring MLB The Show, for the first time ever, to additional console platforms beyond PlayStation platforms as early as 2021," said the message from MLB. "Complete details will be announced at a later date."Even if you're not a fan of sports games, this is a huge deal for a number of reasons. For many years at this point, MLB The Show has been the only true baseball sim on the market, and it has solely been confined to the PlayStation platform. Those on PC, Xbox, and even Switch have had to resort to other, more arcade-like experiences instead, for the most part. By comparison, Xbox hasn't seen a real baseball game on its platform since the release of MLB 2K13 arrived back in 2013.While details of the series coming to other platforms haven't been completely specified yet, Xbox head Phil Spencer has already chimed in on this news and sounds quite pleased about it.

We'll surely learn a whole lot more about this situation down the road, but it's really great to see that one of the year's best games will now be played by that many more people. Until then, the next entry in the series, MLB The Show 20 is set to arrive in March 2020 exclusively on PS4.
