Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could be launching with a total of sixteen multiplayer maps, five of which will be exclusively available in the game's Ground War game mode. It has also been revealed that the 6v6 multiplayer map known as Grand Prix, has been renamed to Crown Raceway after all mention of the map was mysteriously removed a few months ago.

Players who pre-ordered a digital version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are now able to jump into the game's campaign via early access. The game's multiplayer and special ops modes will be made available when Modern Warfare 2 releases worldwide on October 28th.

Although fans already got a taste of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode during the open beta last month, only a small selection of maps were available to play. There will, of course, be a much larger selection to choose from when the game is fully released next week. Now, according to a leak from various data miners such as TheGhostOfHope, the following maps may be available at launch:

6v6 Multiplayer Maps

  • Breenbergh Hotel
  • Museum
  • Mercado Las Almas
  • Taraq
  • Crown Raceway
  • Al Bagra Fortress
  • Zarqwa Hydroelectric
  • Santa Seña Border Crossing
  • Farm 18
  • Embassy
  • El Asilo

Ground War Maps

  • Sa’id
  • Sariff Bay
  • Santa Seña
  • Zarqwa Hydroelectric
  • Al Bagra Fortress

Although data mined details are often correct, we recommend you take these details with a pinch of salt for the time being. Although these may be official Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps, things can change behind the scenes before the game officially launches on October 28th.

Modern Warfare 2 is rumored to have a life cycle of two years, as opposed to the usual one-year cycle that Call of Duty is known for. Previous reports suggested that a "greatest hits" map pack would be released in the game's second year, which means a plethora of new multiplayer maps from past Call of Duty titles will be made available in Modern Warfare 2.
