Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 officially launched around the world today, and players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC quickly discovered that they don't have the option to disable crossplay.

As spotted by The Verge's Tom Warren, the option to toggle crossplay on and off simply isn't available in the settings of Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox and PC, but the option is available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Essentially, what this means is that Xbox and PC users are forced to play in Multiplayer lobbies that are populated with players on every platform.

Many believe that console users are put at a clear disadvantage when playing in the same lobbies as PC users, due to the fact that keyboard and mouse are seen as a much more accurate way of playing first-person shooters. Crossplay does allow users to play with friends and family members on other platforms, but previous Call of Duty titles have often allowed users to toggle the feature on and off in the past.

This wasn't the case with Call of Duty: Warzone, however, which also forced Xbox players to keep crossplay enabled if they wanted to play the game. Again, PlayStation users were simply able to disable the feature and continue playing. This means Infinity Ward likely hasn't made a mistake, and crossplay could possibly stay enabled for all users on Xbox and PC for the foreseeable future.

It's not all bad news for PC players though, as today's launch of Modern Warfare 2 is the first time in five years that a Call of Duty game was purchasable through Steam. Previously, Activision had forced players to use the Battle Net launcher to purchase any Call of Duty title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
