It looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is rumoured to be releasing later this year, will be the final entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare series.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare brought the franchise huge success when it launched back in 2007, and even spawned two sequels in 2009 and 2011. Infinity Ward then went on to work on other Call of Duty projects such as Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

When the three-year cycle came back around to Infinity Ward in 2019, rumours soon began circulating that the developers would be continuing the Modern Warfare series with a fourth entry. However, fans were shocked to discover that a full reboot of the series would be arriving later that year.

The reboot included many familiar faces from the original series, but with a completely new story. Although this series was separate from the original Modern Warfare series, many of us expected the reboot to bring us a complete trilogy, similar to the original. But, an industry insider claims that's not going to be the case, as the series will come to an end with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 later this year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Will Conclude The Rebooted Series

According to RalphsValve, a trusted industry insider, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 intends to conclude the rebooted series that began in 2019. Ralph went on to state that Infinity Ward is also not interested in bringing back any old titles once Modern Warfare 2 releases, the developers are said to be "looking beyond".

If the rumour is to be believed, not only will we not be receiving a rebooted version of Modern Warfare 3, but fans also shouldn't expect any continuation of Call of Duty: Ghosts or Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare either.

Of course, we advise taking this information with a grain of salt as things change behind the scenes all the time.
