While the Modus Games label for publisher Maximum Games started out a bit rocky with Extinction, it has made a name for itself recently as the publisher of some highly anticipated indie games like Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince and Cris Tales. Today, we learned that the publisher is starting to grow as they have acquired The Balance Inc, the Brazilian developer behind 2018's Override: Mech City Brawl.

Prior to last year, The Balance Inc was primarily known for the mobile game Goat 'em Up. Override: Mech City Brawl, a 3D brawler containing a variety of colorful mecha, is what really put them on the map when it released in December 2018. That being said, The Balance Inc will officially be known as Modus Games Brazil following this acquisition. This seems to be an important expansion for them too, as Maximum Games CEO Christina Seelye highlighted that "this is one of many giant steps for Modus as we strengthen our goal to bring AAA publishing services to independent developers."

"With the creation of Modus Studios Brazil, we will be better positioned to fund and support burgeoning markets and enhance Modus IPs," she continued in their official press release. During an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, she also elaborated on how The Balance Inc's South American location made it an enticing purchase. "There is so much amazing talent in South America. We've worked with studios in Brazil, Colombia, and Chile, and have had great experiences each time, but the relationship with The Balance Inc just clicked. Our style, approach, and work ethic aligned very early on, and ultimately, we saw a great team from which to build a foundation for a long-term studio in Brazil."

The first step in enhancing Modus Studios Brazil's "successful and profitable" Override IP is porting Override: Mech City Brawl to Nintendo Switch. This new version of the game was confirmed alongside today's acquisition news, and will be arriving sometime this fall. Outside of the aforementioned titles, this next year may prove to be strong one for Modus Games with new games such as Rock of Ages: Make & Break and Remothered: Broken Porcelain.
