Mojang Rebrands to Mojang Studios With New Logo and Future Projects
Mojang is no longer Mojang, it's now Mojang Studios.
There’s something about the words “Studios” that appeals these days isn’t there? Back in 2019, Microsoft Studios rebranded to Xbox Game Studios, the other week PlayStation Studios was announced, and now Mojang is jumping on some of that hot studio’s action. Announced through a blog post, Mojang has now rebranded to Mojang Studios.
On Minecraft’s birthday, Mojang announced that it’s updating its logo, the name of the studio, and the “secret sauce” that makes the machine run. The blog post talks about reinvention, “would you still wear the outfit that perfectly defined your style in 2009?” It states that the studio is also working on not only Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons, but there’s a feature film in the works, as well as a live show, and ideas for new games.
The blog post also introduces “The Mojang’s” which are the little characters that transform themselves into each letter for “Mojang” and are described as “mysterious little gizmos […] powered by play. They test and tinker, endlessly explore, and help us discover new corners of the Minecraft universe.” There’s not much else explained about them, my assumption is they’re just merely mascots for the studio.
Minecraft has certainly developed from its early beginnings as a simple Java game, growing to include a deeper survival mode, an expansive creative mode, cross-platform play, used for education, and more recently, we’ve seen a stunning RTX beta. Check out this image below taken with the RTX beta Minecraft. It took me ages to make it, be nice. If you want to see it in video format, check out my Twitter video here.
It’s certainly exciting to see Mojang growing, and it’s also intriguing as to what new games the studio could be working on. Minecraft itself is available on pretty much every platform with the RTX beta being available only for Windows 10 users.
