Monolith Soft Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Artworks by Yasuyuki Honne and Shota Sakaki

Monolith Soft celebrates its 20th anniversary with an all-star artwork by Shota Sakaki.

Monolith Software updated its official site with a new page to celebrate the studio’s 20th Anniversary.

Comments from Monolith Soft’s cofounders Tetsuya Takahashi and Yasuyuki Honne were published as well. Long story short they both said they strive to make Monolith Soft even greater and aim for the 25th and 30th anniversary.

Monolith Soft also published two artworks to celebrate. The first one is by Shota Sakaki and features nearly all the main characters from Monolith games, from KOS-MOS to Reiji and Xiaomu to Rex. Shota Sakaki is an artist who joined Monolith Soft in 2019. The second artwork is by Yasuyuki Honne.

My favorite Monolith Soft games are Endless Frontier Super Robot Wars OG and Endless Frontier Super Robot Wars OG Exceed, both on Nintendo DS. These two were the successors to Namco x Capcom, and were later succeeded by Project X Zone 1 and 2 on 3DS. It seems unlikely we’ll get a new game of this type soon, as their director Soichiro Morizumi left Monolith in 2017. However, he recently worked with Super Robot Wars‘ developers for a new OG-themed event happening in mobile game Super Robot Wars Cross Omega. So I’m hoping more character from Endless Frontier will be getting in the next SRW OG venture.

A remaster of Xenoblade 1 is coming to Switch in 2020, titled Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition.
