Monolith Soft’s JRPG X Confirmed for 2014 Release at Least in Japan; Gets Gameplay Details

Remember Monolith Soft’s new labor of love codenamed X? At long last Nintendo’s head honcho Satoru Iwata presented some new gameplay for the upcoming and lovely looking JRPG, but there’s more.

Many doubted that Monolith Soft would finish the game by this year, especially due to the months passed with no news, but Iwata-san confirmed during the Japanese version of the broadcast that the game is slated for a 2014 release. Unfortunately, he didn’t make mention of that in the North American broadcast, but just said “stay tuned for further updates,” possibly meaning that the game might not make it across the Pacific ocean this year.

In addition to this, Iwata-san mentioned that the combat system will be based on what we saw in Monolith Soft’s previous JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii (which I loved), but it’ll be more polished.

While we wait for “further updates,” you can enjoy the new gameplay footage in the video below. Here’s a spoiler: it looks really, really good.
