After much speculation when the Monster Hunter movie would actually drop and not hearing too much about it other than some on-set photos, it seems as though we have finally got an answer. According to Deadline, the video game adaptation looks set to arrive on the big screen on September 4, 2020 - with Milla Jovovich who also played Alice in the Resident Evil film series. Alongside Milla, Diego Boneta, Ron Perlman, and Tony Jaa will star in the movie.

Capcom finally made Monster Hunter movie official this year and with Event Horizon and Resident Evil director Paul W. S. Anderson taking the reins, you can be sure that this should make an interesting take on the popular video game franchise - well, at least we hope so, but going by some of the Resident Evil movies he directed, I think I'll need to cross my fingers and toes.

The plot behind the Monster Hunter movie sees a crew of United Nations soldiers who fall into a portal to an alternate dimension where they find themselves tossed into a world colonized by huge monsters, the team then must work and fight together to stop the monsters from entering the portal and cause destruction on planet earth - to do this they must find a way to close the portal and in the meanwhile trying to survive too - sounds exhausting! The UN team is led by Captain Natalie Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and The Hunter (Tony Jaa).

Some fans of the franchise didn't take too kindly when the first couple of on-set pictures appeared last year due to the movie appearing not to follow the video game. Many of the cast members were seen wearing generic military uniforms and modern firearms - a far cry from the armor, melee weapons and Palico animal companions fans are used to seeing within the Monster Hunter video game. Although, pictures of Milla were shown with her carrying a "slinger" weapon from Monster Hunter: World so hopefully more elements of the video game are in the movie.

Hopefully, we will get to see more details when trailers start to appear up until its release in theaters on September 4, 2020.
