More Retailers Slash Vita Prices On Eve of PlayStation Press Conference

on August 19, 2013 8:33 PM

Earlier today, multiple retailers slashed the price of the PlayStation Vita by $50, and where the 3G model is concerned, by $100.

Yesterday, Target started a sale on the handheld, marking down both the wi-fi and 3G models of the Vita to $199. Today, Best Buy and Amazon have also jumped on board. The wi-fi model of the PS Vita is available for $199 from Amazon, while both models are selling at Best Buy for the same price.

With Sony’s conference at Gamescom taking place tomorrow, this widespread and very significant price drop could hint at a forthcoming official announcement. Rumors about a redesigned Vita have been swirling and many are expecting Sony to announce new Vita bundles tomorrow.

I thought the price of the Vita itself was tame compared to the price of its memory cards. Let’s hope those get a significant price drop too. We’ll be extensively covering Gamescom, so stay tuned for any official related announcements.
