As the hype for Mortal Kombat 11 remains high on fuel after the live reveal event that took place last week, there have been all sorts of news and details floating around. We've seen news about the Switch port not being developed in-house, Russia exclusive skins, and character reveals such as Reptile. Now, thanks to a question asked by WCCFTech, it looks like the game will be potentially looking into cross-platform play.

WCCFTech were on location at the press event that took place in London where they asked Game Designer Derek Kirtzic about the chances of cross-platform play making it into Mortal Kombat 11. Details aren't ready to be discussed right now but it was stated that it is something NetherRealm Studios is looking into and hope to do so at some point.

Furthermore, in an interview with GameRevolution regarding the Switch version of the game, Producer Trevor Traub said, "We’re trying to reach as many people as we possibly can. So we’re going to take that opportunity."

Opening the title up to more players through cross-platform means would certainly broaden the playing field and bring friends together across various platforms.

It wouldn't be too crazy to assume that Mortal Kombat 11 would support cross-platform play seeing as the reception that both Fortnite and Rocket League has generated has been immense. The interest was enough for Epic Games to start pushing their cross-platform online services live throughout this year for the Unreal Engine — the very engine Mortal Kombat 11 is running on. So really, it makes sense for them to make use of the tools and bring more players together.

The only thing we need to wonder is how full would the cross-platform play be for Mortal Kombat 11? Microsoft and Nintendo has been fairly vocal and open about supporting cross-platform play, whereas Sony has only just started to dip their toes in since they allowed Fortnite to lead the storm.

We had our man Zack on the ground at the US press event so you can see his thoughts on the gameplay and its pacing here.

Mortal Kombat 11 is to launch April 23 on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
