Mortal Kombat 11 Crossplay Guide: What You Need to Know

Crossplay is coming to NetherRealm Studios' newest fighter Mortal Kombat 11. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming feature.

Kombatants rejoice! NetherRealm Studios’ hit fighting game Mortal Kombat 11 will feature crossplay. While it won’t be available on all platforms at the start, this will allow you to compete across different consoles. But how exactly does it all work? This Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay guide will tell you everything you need to know.

What systems will have access to Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay?

As of now, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will allow crossplay. That doesn’t mean other platforms won’t eventually get the feature. While it won’t be available at the start, the language used in the FAQ says crossplay won’t come to PC, Nintendo Switch, or Stadia versions of Mortal Kombat 11 “at this time.”

What modes will be available?

It seems only Online Kasual game modes will be available on the aforementioned supported platforms. That means ranked matches, like the Kombat League, will not be available in crossplay when it inevitably becomes available.

While there is no reason why ranked modes will not be available, I would assume stability may be one of the concerns. Playing a casual mode means there are no stakes; losing isn’t an issue. Losing in Kombat League means you lose progress. If stability is an issue NetherRealm Studios is concerned about with crossplay, it may be beneficial to test the waters a bit and see how well it performs in the wild.

How does Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay work?

There will be a toggle that will turn the crossplay feature on, allowing you to compete across both Xbox One and PS4 platforms. Once the toggle is on, when you matchmake for a Kasual match, it will find an opponent with other players who have the toggled the feature on.

There will also be designated crossplay online rooms that will allow you to manually fight against other opponents using the feature. This will be useful if you and a friend own the game on separate platforms. You will need to coordinate with each other to set the match up, but using the Krossplay Online Room feature will allow you to play with your friends across the Xbox One and PS4 platforms.

Does progress carry over from console to console

To put it simply, no. Your Mortal Kombat 11 profile is specific to what console you play. So, the progress you’ve made, wins you’ve earned, unlocks you’ve garnered, and content you purchased will not carry over from console to console.

When will “Krossplay” be available?

An exact date for Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay has not been announced. NetherRealm Studios is currently testing the feature for PS4 and Xbox One platforms. When the feature does get implemented, details will be shared via NetherRealm Studios and Mortal Kombat’s Twitter.
