There was a lot of great things to come out of yesterday's Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event. We got to see the first official gameplay of MK11, Ronda Rousey was announced to be playing Sonya Blade, and the franchise's newest character in Geras looked awesome. All of this being said, we still don't know the full scope of who will be included in the game's 25-character roster, with only 8 confirmed fighters having yet been announced.

Well, we here at DualShockers may have just gained a bit of insight into one of the other characters left to be revealed for the roster if what we were told at yesterday's event is to be expounded upon. Speaking with NetherRealm Studios Art Director Steve Beran at "The Reveal," he explained to us one of Mortal Kombat 11's newest features is that of the Towers of Time, a seemingly new mode that is based around the classic tower structure seen in previous MK games. Beran explained to us that in this mode, you can select from a variety of different modifiers to help you through your battles. The one he focused on the most though when talking to us was that of a tag team modifier, which will allow you to use different characters to progress through the tower.

For example, Beran said that you could be utilizing one character and activate this tag functionality and a fighter (he used Skarlet in his own telling) could come on and fight for a bit before then departing again. "She comes in, throws a few blows, and then hops back out," he told us. What came next though was when Beran may have let something slip ahead of time.

When further explaining these mechanics, Beran told us the following:

"Then there's certain things like you can activate Reptile's Acid Ball. It's very nostalgic. You have these helpers, if you will. It's a blast and we're really happy about that."

So yeah, it looks like we were seemingly told that Reptile, the classic Mortal Kombat character who was first playable in MK2, will likely be in MK11. Now, it's worth noting that Beran didn't outright tell us that Reptile will be a part of the actual playable roster, but the fact that a move of everyone's favorite lizard-man will even be present in Mortal Kombat 11 at all seems like a pretty good indicator that he'll be appearing.

Plus, this isn't really all that surprising of a reveal, assuming Reptile is part of the lineup. He's one of the most frequent characters to appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise and he's long been a fan favorite. In fact, Reptile not being in the game would be more surprising than if he made a return. It seems like this slip, combined with the tease of Kabal and the showing of Kung Lao and Liu Kang in the story trailer has given us a decent idea of who will be making up nearly half of the final roster.

NetherRealm will reveal more details on the roster of Mortal Kombat 11 as we continue to inch towards release and they'll surely make this reveal official down the road if it turns out to be true. Mortal Kombat 11 is due out on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on April 23.
