A Mortal Kombat 2021 sequel could be confirmed soon if the original movie brings in enough profit for the producers.

In the past years, we have seen a number of Mortal Kombat movies from Warner Bros. Media, but none of them turn into a big commercial success for the producer. However, this time around, things might be a little bit different.

Mortal Kombat 2021 is the latest movie based on the beloved video game series of the same name that will be available today to watch in theaters as well as HBO Max. As a reboot of the previous movies, it seems Warner Bros. is optimistic for the future of the new Mortal Kombat product.

Will There Be a Mortal Kombat 2021 Sequel?

As reported by Variety, the Mortal Kombat 2021 sequel could be in the works if the original movie turns into a success for Warner Bros. According to the source, the producer has signed a deal for four Mortal Kombat movies with the cast, but the filming for the sequels only starts if the current, original version meets the expectations of Warner Bros. commercially.

Joe Taslim, who plays Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat 2021, confirmed that there could be more movies from the franchise in the future. Taslim said:

We don't know if we're gonna have a sequel — fingers crossed that we have a sequel," Taslim said. "If this one's successful, maybe we do more.

Regarding the fact that Mortal Kombat 2021 will hit theaters and HBO Max at the same time, it wouldn't be a tough mission for the movie to bring in profit for Warner Media, especially when you know that this isn't a big-budget movie.

If you haven't watched the previous movies of the franchise, there's no need to watch them before Mortal Kombat 2021 as it's supposed to be a reboot. That being said, having an initial knowledge of the Mortal Kombat world and characters could help you a lot to enjoy the movie and understand its lore.
