Celebrate Mortal Kombat’s 25th Anniversary With a Slew of Activites
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are celebrating Mortal Kombat's 25th anniversary with a variety of events and game content.
It has been 25 years since the popular fighting game, Mortal Kombat, made its bloody debut. Since its release, the franchise has seen multiple sequels, movies, and other spin-offs. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are bringing some events and in-game activities to partake in.
If you are attending New York Comic Con on Sunday, October 8th, a panel moderated by Geoff Keighly and featuring Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, and John Vogel — developers who worked on the first Mortal Kombat title — will discuss the popular franchise and its impact on the games industry.
If you are playing NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighting game, Injustice 2, you will be happy to know that Mortal Kombat‘s God of Thunder Raiden is now playable if you purchased the Injustice 2 Ultimate Pack or Fighter Pack #2. The protector of Earthrealm also includes a premiere skin that allows you to play as DC Comics hero, Black Lightning.
NetherRealm Studios’ mobile games will also help celebrate the momentous occasion with in-game content. Starting October 5th, here are all the celebratory items that will available:
- Injustice 2 for mobile adds Mortal Kombat’s God of Thunder Raiden, allowing players to battle the deity in Challenge Mode. Raiden can be won in premium chests or purchased directly in a special offer.
- Mortal Kombat X for mobile adds Shao Kahn the Konqueror in full Diamond tier regalia. Players can also step up and battle against two new versions of Goro, the four-armed undefeated champion for 500 years. In addition, fans can gear up for intense raid-style combat in the all new Relic Hunt feature.
- Injustice: Gods Among Us for mobile adds the dangerous assassin Scorpion to its line-up.
- WWE Immortals pays homage to Mortal Kombat as WWE Superstar Xavier Woods suits up as classic Mortal Kombat character Raiden.
Lastly, Mortal Kombat X will have living towers themed to previously released titles in the franchise such as Mortal Kombat 1-4, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and Mortal Kombat (2011).
All the aforementioned games are available now for their respected platforms. It was recently revealed that NetherRealm Studios’ most recent release, Injustice 2, will add another character to its roster with the Atom.
