Warner Bros. released the

" target="_blank" rel="noopener">red band trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie yesterday and it was just as brutal as we'd hoped. We got to see Sub-Zero making a blade out of blood, Jax getting his arms frozen off and many, many other Fatalities. While it looks cheesy as hell, the movie has fans pumped as it looks like a bloody, violent romp.Throughout the trailer, we get a glimpse at a range of different Mortal Kombat movie characters - but who's making the jump to the big screen and what can we expect?

Mortal Kombat Movie Details

Thankfully, after that awesome trailer, we don't have to wait too long for the movie's release. The film is scheduled to hit both theatres and HBO Max on April 16, this year.

The movie has faced a troubled development cycle, with Warner Bros. beginning the process in 2010. Finally, in 2016, James Wan was appointed as producer and filming started in September 2019.

Which Mortal Kombat Characters are in the Movie?

The good news for fans is that there will be plenty of familiar characters within the Mortal Kombat movie.

In the trailer, we get a good look at Jax getting his arms blasted off by Sub-Zero. Sonya, Liu Kang, Kano and Scorpion also all have major parts. Raiden, Kung Lao and Mileena also make appearances. There is also the debuting Cole Young who has a headline role in the movie. The full list of characters is below.

  • Lewis Tan as Cole Young
  • Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero
  • Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion
  • Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade
  • Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs
  • Josh Lawson as Kano
  • Tadanobu Asano as Raiden
  • Ludi Lin as Liu Kang
  • Chin Han as Shang Tsung
  • Max Huang as Kung Lao
  • Daniel Nelson as Kabal
  • Sisi Stringer as Mileena
  • Elissa Cadwell as Nitara

What to expect from the movie?

The fact that the trailer is so incredibly gory, I'd say fans of that sort of thing are in for a treat. It was confirmed back in 2019 that the movie would be R-Rated and feature Fatalities and they look to be pulling no punches. The story looks a little paint by numbers and a lot of the scenes incredibly cheesy, but I'm here for it.
