Indigenous Action-Adventure Game Mulaka Receives Release Dates For All Platforms
Lienzo has revealed when Mulaka, an action-adventure game based Mexico's indigenous Tarahumara people, will launch on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
Last year, independent developer Lienzo unveiled Mulaka, an action-adventure game with a story and atmosphere deeply rooted in history, mythology, and culture of the Tarahumara people, who are indigenous to Northern Mexico. It certainly piqued my interest, but it had not yet received a firm release date, only a vague “early 2018” release window. That changed today though, as Lienzo has revealed when the game will be hitting PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The PC and PS4 versions of Mulaka will be the first to launch, coming out on February 27. The Nintendo Switch version of the game comes next on March 1, with the Xbox One port rounding things out when it releases on March 2. The game is now available to pre-order on all platforms, with a portion of its proceeds going to an NGO that supports the Tarahumara’s region. These NGO donations will also continue once Mulaka has been released on all platforms.
For those who want to learn more about the Tarahumara culture, Lienzo has previously released a series of videos that go into detail about the culture, its people, and its mythology. It’s certainly an interesting watch for those of you who enjoy history, especially because it is a facet of Mexican culture that isn’t brought up often in mainstream media or education.
According to Lienzo, all of their research wound up spawning a game that includes brutal hand-to-hand combat, a low-poly yet colorful art style, the ability to turn into a demigod, and enemies based on mythological creatures that aren’t that well known. That being said, Lienzo believes that the whole game an authentic representation of those indigenous people, and will educate people on a topic they probably don’t know about.
You can watch the trailer that reveals the game’s release date below. Mulaka will release for $19.99 on PC and PS4 February 27, Nintendo Switch March 1, and Xbox One March 2.
