Mushoku Tensei Season 2 is happening!

TV anime Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation has a second season currently in production. The season 2 announcement was made at the March 6 Mushoku Tensei screening event for the first season's unaired episode. The announcement was later shared via the anime's official Twitter account.

What we know about Mushoku Tensei season 2 and its story so far

Mushoku Tensei season 1 ended after Rudeus and Eris part with each other. The next arc in the novel's story takes place after a timeskip and focuses on Rudeus's adolescence. The anime should partly cover Rudeus' time with a new party and how he became known as the Quagmire, and later on his time at the Ranoa Magical Academy. Which might or might not be your cup of tea as it's a typical school arc. (Note that this isn't technically a spoiler as it was already mentioned Rudeus would enroll in this school).

Mushoku Tensei is originally a web novel written by Rifujin no Magonote, published on popular Japanese web site for novels, Shosetsuka ni Narou. Rifujin no Magonote already mentioned in interviews he'd regularly inspire himself from other developments from the top web novels like Re:Zero. Hence why Mushoku Tensei has its own school arc.

Most if not all "isekai" anime are originally web novels published on the Shosetsuka ni Narou site, hence why the "isekai" genre's true name is actually the "narou" genre. Most notably to differentiate it with older isekai anime like Escaflowne or The Twelve Kingdoms, who don't follow the same patterns at all and aren't copies of each other.

The web novel version of Mushoku Tensei is already over, but the light novel version is still ongoing now. Mushoku Tensei – Jobless Reincarnation is the English name of the light novel, published by Seven Seas. There are over 24 volumes so far in Japan, so there's still a lot of material for many more anime seasons or movies. I personally recommend reading the light novel version or the manga adaptation if waiting for the anime is too long.
