In the last few manga chapters, we’ve seen Deku distancing himself from his classmates. Deku decided to leave U.A. to protect his loved ones, and he’s constantly on the move to stay away from All For One.

After constantly fighting with AFO’s minions, Deku’s costume is in its worst state. According to the mangaka’s sketches in Volume 31, the Deku we see in the latest chapters is covered in blood, dirt, mud, and ash. And interestingly, our hero’s new look is officially called “Black Deku.”

Thanks to Atsu on Twitter, we know that Deku, in his current state, can use Black Whip 24/7. Meaning, he is always ready to fight whoever All For One sends his way.

Moreover, the sketches in Volume 31 state that “Deku’s destroyed mask makes it look like an evil smile.” Also, his glare through the mask is more intense, mostly because of the anger he is harvesting in his heart.

Of course, in the latest manga chapter, we’ve seen Class A students successfully getting hold of Deku. And the chapter concludes with Deku crying his heart out. So, it’s hard to say if we’ll get to see more of “Black/Dark Deku” moving forward.
