My Hero Academia Two Heroes is trending on Twitter, a peculiar situation seeing this is actually the first anime movie of the franchise, what happened?

MHA Two Heroes was first released on August 2018 in Japan, though it actually got a world premiere at Anime Expo in Los Angeles one month before. Like all the movies so far, its plot isn't from the manga. It's an original story set outside the arcs.

What triggered everything is how over in Japan, the @heroaca_anime official Twitter announced that the first movie will be broadcast on TV for the very first time. The first MHA movie will be broadcast on August 6 on the Friday Roadshow block of Nihon TV. The movie's broadcast will have no ads in-between too.

The tweet announcing the broadcast is already over 20K Retweets and 55K Likes, which prompted MHA fans from Japan to share their memories of the movie and the series as a whole. And the trend kept going since you've got international fans checking Japanese tags on Twitter, or using them too even when tweeting in English. (Thank God you can filter tweets by languages because this would be a nightmare otherwise).

More and more fans around the world are joining in as well. The typical ripple effect happened too as some Twitter users kept tweeting "why is the MHA movie trending" or explaining why it's trending, only participating in the phenomenon.

My Hero Academia World Heroes Mission, Japanese release date

Over in Japan, My Hero Academia World Heroes Mission, the third movie of the franchise, will be out in cinemas on August 6, 2021. Hence why Nihon TV decided to air the first movie on this date. This way, fans who can't go to the cinema can still watch some MHA movie goodness on TV.

The movie has no release date overseas yet. It's very likely the movie would have gotten some world premiere at Japan Expo in France, or Anime Expo, if not for the pandemic. For now we can only wait for a release date to be announced.
