VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action was a unique bartending simulator from Sukeban Games that has sold over 200,00 copies since its release in 2016. Today, the developers and publisher Ysbryd Games revealed that they are currently working a sequel, titled N1RV Ann-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action, and that it will release in 2020 for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
N1RV Ann-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action is styled very much in the same way as the original, but features improved graphics and a whole new setting and characters. Instead of taking place in Glitch City, players bartend at the titular bar, a play on Nirvana, in Saint Alicia. That city resides on an island, and while it may look very opulent on the surface, it actually has a scary criminal underbelly.
Players control a woman named Sam who interacts with the bar’s patron as well as deal with a troublesome home life. She has an eight-year-old son Tony to care for, but her partner Leon, unfortunately, is a member of the Yakuza, which creates a rift between them. Still, the core of the game is interacting and getting to know the people you bartend, some of whom have crazily augmented their body with cybernetic enhancements.
Players must determine and mix the best drinks for these characters. The drinks actually have a profound impact on the story’s progression and outcomes, though missions can be replayed so players can see more of the conversations or unlock secret missions. Christopher “Kiririn51” Ortiz, Co-Founder of Sukeban Games, had the following to say about N1RV Ann-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action:
“Most games use a big-picture perspective, but what made VA-11 HALL-A special was its focus on the characters and their problems. It’s about getting to know people on a personal level, this time with a shiny new location, more options for drink orders, and more ways to relate to customers.”
