The Soulcalibur series has been alive and well in the past year, with the release of Soulcalibur V in early 2012 and the impending release of Soulcalibur II HD Online for this coming fall. However, Namco-Bandai looks to be taking up another tale of souls and swords in the near future.
Revealed in the most recent issue of Famitsu, Namco-Bandai is currently developing Soulcalibur: Lost Swords, a new entry in the series that will also be the series’ first free-to-play game, and will be released exclusively on PS3. With Namco-Bandai developing more and more F2P games like Ace Combat Infinity, Tekken Revolution, and Ridge Racer Driftopia, Soulcalibur: Lost Swords will most likely use a similar model of releasing new characters and stages over time as paid-DLC, while offering a selection of characters and arenas for free right out of the gate.
Unfortunately, no other details were revealed in the magazine article at this time, but hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait before you can get into the next round of Soulcalibur on PS3.
