Namco dropped this little clip today to introduce players to one of the new features of Soul Calibur V; critical edges. These powerful attacks are executed similarly to the super attacks from 2D fighters such as Street Fighter and they're flashy, show-stopping and most likely very useful. Before you can execute a critical edge, you have to fill a meter by dealing out ordinary attacks.

This mechanic should be very easy to grasp for general fighting game fans because of how similar it is to the extremely old super attack mechanic. However, because the concept is entirely new to SC, I can understand Namco taking the time to break it down. They even explain how the directional input reverses if you're on the right side of the screen. *facepalm* Soul Calibur V will be available on HD consoles in January 2012. Hit the break for the vid.
