Following several teases last week from actor Nathan Fillion relating to the Uncharted series, today we saw the result being a brilliantly-made fan film starring Fillion as the series' protagonist Nathan Drake, and new details have arrived from Fillion on how it all happened, along with what is in store for him and his fan favorite Destiny 2 character, Cayde-6.

Speaking in an interview on Kotaku's Splitscreen podcast, Nathan Fillion shared more details on his involvement with the recently-released Uncharted fan film in which he played the starring role of Nathan Drake, with the unofficial film having already reached over 450,000 views since its debut this morning on YouTube (as of this writing).

Specifically, Fillion shared that the road to producing the short film started with a meeting with the film's executive producer, Alex Lebovici, several years ago who then eventually introduced Fillion to its director, Allan Ungar. Ungar revealed himself as a "passionate" fan of Uncharted according to Fillion, and after meeting with Ungar earlier this year, the team gathered in May to shoot and produce the 14-minute short film.

Notably, the fan film was not produced in any sort of official capacity with Sony or Naughty Dog, as an Uncharted film adaptation has been under various forms of development for quite some time. Fillion expressed that he has had no involvement with the production or development of Sony's feature film, which will reportedly star Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake in the most recent developments on the film.

However, Fillion explained during the interview that while previous attempts at an Uncharted feature film have been ongoing for almost a decade, ultimately he, Ungar, and the rest of the short film's creative team "wanted to scratch an itch" at bringing Uncharted to the big screen (in some fashion), as Fillion has been a popular choice among fans for some time to play Nathan Drake.

With the fan film having finally been released, he said that "our goal has been achieved" and that "if something comes from this, that's just icing on the cake," as far as if developments on the actual feature film proceed further. Fillion said jokingly that "if Sony wants to make a movie and they want me to be in it, they know my number and they can give me a ring," but also added that he is "super duper excited to see what Sony has in store" for the Uncharted movie and seeing what becomes of it.

Alongside talking about the Uncharted fan film, Fillion also detailed a bit more on Destiny 2: Forsaken, given the surprise revelation that his long-running Destiny series character, Cayde-6, was killed during the reveal trailer for the expansion at E3 2018. As far as the character himself goes, Fillion confirmed that he did not play Cayde-6 as he was "unavailable" to play the character in the trailer; instead, it was revealed that Cayde-6 is played by Nolan North in the upcoming expansion.

This falls in line with how Bungie has made it clear that Cayde-6 is truly dead in the upcoming expansion, though interestingly Fillion doesn't believe that the character may be dead. However, Fillion only said that he "absolutely [loves]" the character, and we'll have to wait until September when Destiny 2: Forsaken releases to see what really lies ahead for the fate of Cayde-6.
