Neo: The World Ends With You Release Date on PS4, Switch - Is TWEWY 2 a Sequel or Remake?

Square Enix announced Neo: The World Ends With You back in November 2020, right after announcing an anime adaptation project of the original game - is Neo TWEYY a sequel or a remake, and when's the release date?

When's the release date of Neo: The World Ends With You?

For now, Square Enix announced Neo: The World Ends With You is coming Summer 2021 on PS4 and Switch.

However, Tetsuya Nomura announced on Twitter that new information will be published on April 9, at 15 JST. That's 2 AM ET, and 11 PM PT. It's very likely that the Neo: The World Ends With You final release date will be announced then.

The announcement will be published on the TWEWY anime Japanese official Twitter account. Note that this will be happening a few hours before the anime's first episode airs in Japan. Future information on Neo: TWEWY will also come through this account.

The release date of Neo: The World Ends With You is set for on July 27, on PS4 and Switch. A PC Version will be coming to the Epic Games Store in Summer 20201. A new trailer was shared for the occasion:

Is Neo: The World Ends With You a sequel or remake?

In a special program for the anime held on April 3, the director of Neo TWEWY, Tatsuya Kando, said that the game is a "direct sequel to the The World Ends With You The Animation anime and set three years after it".

It's interesting that he noted it's a sequel to the TV anime, as it implies it will bring new elements not found in the original game, the Solo Remix mobile port, or the Final Remix Switch port.

However, it's also important to note that both Remix ports included new story elements and introduced a new character Tsugumi Matsunae, hinting at a sequel. Moreover, Tsugumi Matsunae appears in the first trailer of Neo: The World Ends With You.

The World Ends With You was first released in July 2007 on Nintendo DS in Japan under the name Subarashiki Kono Sekai it's a Wonderful World. The TWEWY series also appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series. Neo The World Ends With You was first revealed on November 23, 2020 by Square Enix.
