SNK Affirms Plans for a New NeoGeo Console
This new NeoGeo hardware from SNK will also be compatible with the upcoming NeoGeo Mini so it can play classic games.
Months ago, SNK revealed to investors that they planned on reentering the console market with a new NeoGeo console. Today, a tweet aimed at western audiences affirmed that SNK is working on the so-called NeoGeo 2, which means that console joins the ranks of the Atari VCS and Intellivision Amico of being a revival of a retro console brand.
SNK recently described the NeoGeo 2 as a “semi-open” platform that will see both classics and new games released on it. Today’s tweet gives us a better idea of what to expect. The NeoGeo 2 will apparently boast a “modern design” and will have a “wonderful play feeling.” Overall, SNK hopes to “provide you a NeoGeo journey that you have never experienced.” One of the more interesting things we learned about the console today was that it will be compatible with the upcoming NeoGeo Mini, opening up an avenue for playing classic games. Here is their tweet that states all of the above:
A Next-Gen NEOGEO hardware is coming after NEOGEO Mini.
With a modern design and a wonderful play feeling and you can even link it to NEOGEO Mini, the new hardware will provide you a NEOGEO journey that you have never expeirenced.

The NeoGeo 2 is not the only new thing on its way from SNK. Not only can we expect DLC for the recently released Samurai Shodown, but The King of Fighters XV and a new Metal Slug are in development as well. It will be interesting to see if either of those games ends up on this new console. In general, I am also excited to see so many new consoles based on classic ones entering the market.
While their viability in the long-run may be questionable, I can’t wait to see how the Intellivision Amico, Atari VCS, and this new NeoGeo console will disrupt the console scene that has been dominated by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo since the early 2000s. DualShockers will let you know more as new details emerge about all of the aforementioned platforms.
