Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the brand new sci-fi anime, Moonrise, showcasing the main character Jack in action against creatures that serve as the antagonists in the Earth vs Moon conflict. Although a firm release date for the anime series has yet to be provided, Moonrise will air on Netflix sometime in 2024.

Announced at the Netflix Tudum 2022, Moonrise is written by novelist Tou Ubukata, best known for his excellent work on Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass 2, and Psycho-Pass 3. The beloved artist Hiromu Akawara, who previously worked on the hit manga series Fullmetal Alchemist, will also join the show as character designer.

The announcement was made via Netflix's Twitter account:: "Writer Tou Ubukata and character designer Hiromu Arakawa team up to create a novel science fiction story. The Netflix Series “Moonrise” tells a story written by novelist and screenwriter Tou Ubukata, who has handled series composition and screenplays for popular anime series such as “Fafner in the Azure” and “Psycho-Pass.”

Elsewhere, the talented team behind Moonrise is what exactly makes the new sci-fi series exciting for anime fans out there. Speaking of staff details, Masashi Koizuka, who previously worked on Attack on Titan and Durarara, will take charge of directing the series as Moonrise is being produced by Wit Studio, the Japanese animation team that made a name for itself with critically-acclaimed anime series' like Vinland Saga and Spy x Family. Moreover, Ryou Kawasaki, whose music accompanies the action sequences shown in the trailer, will serve as the composer for Moonrise.

WIT Studio President George Wada provided gave a little more information on the story and its characters, saying: "Moonrise will portray the lives of two men, Jack and Al, as they confront various hardships in the vast world of outer space. All action and scenery in the unexplored parts of the Moon will be illustrated using an innovative type of animation unlike any seen before. My sincere wish is that this project inspires contemporary lives everywhere."

Moonrise is the story of Jack, who dedicated himself to exacting vengeance on the Moon Rebels who slaughtered his family. He will travel to the moon as an army investigator in order to bring peace to both lifelines. Moonrise will be available exclusively on Netflix in 2024.
