Netflix The Witcher Season 3 Could Begin Filming in March 2022
After a widely successful Season 2 release in December 2021, fans are eagerly awaiting Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3. Here’s what we know about the upcoming season’s filming schedule.
**Some spoilers for the Season 2 Finale!**
The Witcher Season 2 was full of exciting new monsters and stories, bringing the series back in a big way. Taking inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel Blood of Elves, the story ventured deeper into the mystery of Ciri’s magic.
Even bigger, the season introduced some major villains both old and new. The Voleth Meir is now free from the Continent’s Sphere, and the Wild Hunt is closer than ever to tracking Ciri down. With such intensity, it’s no wonder why fans are eager for more news on the upcoming Season 3.
Good news for Witcher fans though! According to Redanian Intelligence, Season 3 is slated to begin filming this year. Here’s everything we know about the schedule so far.
NETFLIX WITCHER SEASON 3 TO START FILMING
Previously, The Witcher writers had confirmed that writing scripts for Season 3 began in July 2021. In a December 2021 interview with TechRadar, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich stated that the new scripts were already nearly complete.
“I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favorite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt.” Hissrich continues, “But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.“
Now, Redanian Intelligence revealed that pre-production for Season 3 will finally ramp up throughout January. For excited Witcher fans, this means that filming could potentially begin in early March 2022.
It’s important to remember though that filming schedules are always subject to change. With a new studio, a new set, and likely new cast members, Season 3 is slated to be even bigger than previous seasons. It’ll likely take time to properly establish the needed resources, especially for a production as large as this. Though, it seems like we’ll likely get season 3 earlier than we did season 2.
Assuming all goes well, Redanian Intelligence also suggests that filming will likely wrap around August 2022. With supposedly 6-7 months of post-production work, it’s possible that the new season could be ready for release in Spring 2023.
