Ed Boon, head of Nether Realm Studios, has recently talked about an upcoming tease from the studio that might eventually reveal their next project, which could be a new entry for the Injustice series.According to a recent tweet by Ed Boon, there is going to be a tease in the future of Nether Realm Studios, which could likely reveal their next game. Previously, Ed Boon's appearance at DC FanDome has ignited a lot of rumors around the announcement of Injustice 3 during the show, but the event ended with only two gaming premieres that were dedicated to Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Of course, it doesn't mean that Nether Realm hasn't started working on a new project yet. Probably, it means they have decided to unveil their new game in another gaming showcase. Later in 2018, Ed Boon officially presented Mortal Kombat 11 at The Game Awards 2018, meaning that their next project might get its announcement trailer during this year's The Game Awards festival, especially given that Geoff Keighley has already teased the presence of some big announcements in The Game Awards 2020.

While there's no official clue on the next title of Nether Realm Studios, it's assumed to be either a sequel to Injustice 2 or a prequel to the whole series. A few months earlier, Tom Taylor, the tie-in comics writer for Injustice games, revealed a new iteration of comics for the franchise, while we don't have a game for it yet. So, the upcoming title from Ed Boon and his team could possibly be based on the Injustice: Year Zero comics.

Nether Realm Studios recently delivered Aftermath as the first post-launch expansion for Mortal Kombat 11. The studio managed to break the sales record in the entire history of the Mortal Kombat series with its latest entry in 2019.
