New Characters, PS3 Release Date, and Limited Edition Revealed for Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma

A truckload of new details about the third proper installment in Arc System Works’ highly praised Blazblue series has emerged. Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma is as of yet planned to release exclusively for the PS3 in Japan. The PS3 version of the game will be available on October 24th, which means that an international release is unlikely to occur until 2014.

The PS3 version of the game will bring with it two new characters that aren’t playable in the popular arcade version of the game. These characters are Kagura Mutsuki, who is a high ranking member of the librarium (and allegedly planning an overthrow of said librarium) and Yuki Terumi, who is the full embodiment of the wicked being that inhabits Hazama’s body. Game-play wise, Kagura will employ different “stances” to give him access to different kinds of attacks while Terumi has lots of super attacks and a mechanic that allows him to build meter quickly.

It should be noted that Terumi is being offered exclusively as a pre-order DLC fighter, though Kagura will apparently be included on the game disc.

The story mode in the PS3 version of the game will be split into three different campaigns, which will take a combined total of around 30 hours to fully complete. The online mode will feature an exciting new world map format, which allows players to choose an avatar and choose to fight opponents from anywhere on the map. This sounds very similar to SoulCalibur V‘s online arena.

Finally, Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma will be available in both a regular and limited edition in Japan. The limited edition will include the game, a soundtrack, a Rachel figurine and an art-book. The limited edition will retail for 10,290 yen (roughly $102…which seems a bit steep for the few bonuses included) and the regular edition will cost 7,140 yen (roughly $73).
