High Moon Studios has released a new video, shedding light on the origin story of the Dinobots; the newest cast of characters to be added to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Matt Tieger, game director over at High Moon, spoke about the overwhelming popularity of the Dinobots and their subsequent inclusion in the game. The impression is given that at one point, Dinobots may not have made it into the game at all, as Tieger & co. had to plead with Hasbro for the green light on their inclusion.

In FoC, the Dinobots origins stem from the Deceptacon known as Shockwave (a mad scientist). After discovering dinosaurs on primordial Earth, he transforms the Dinobots – sacrificing some of their higher brain functions in exchange for strength and brutality – into the form that we will see them in when the game is released. This origin is a High Moon original, as Tieger felt that previous origin stories established in comics and fan-fiction would not fit with the current tone and setting of the game.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a sequel to 2010’s Transformers: War for Cybertron and will be launched in the U.S. on August 28th, 2012 and in Europe on August 31st, 2012.
