Forget the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Player Unknown's Battlegrounds has its own. The massively popular battle royale title does, in fact, have its own story and world, and developer Krafton is looking to expand on that. In an interview with Bloomberg, Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han confirmed that the developer was planning on launching "another PUBG-related PC and console game by next year."

The main focus of the article from Bloomberg is Krafton's rise to prominence and an upcoming initial public offering. According to Kim, the shares sold could raise billions of dollars, and much of that is thanks to PUBG. While Krafton manages four studios, PUBG is its bread and butter, bringing in over $1.1 billion from January to September last year. However, Krafton isn't hedging on the continued success of that game, and instead is looking to expand upon it.

Another game is already confirmed to take place in the PUBG universe, although you couldn't tell at first glance. The Callisto Protocol, a new horror title from the creator of the first Dead Space title, ties in with PUBG. It's not immediately clear how much overlap the two titles will actually have, with the horror title set 300 years in the future. However, it shows that Krafton is open to growing the PUBG universe into anything. The Callisto Protocol will release some time in 2022.

That being said, the game Krafton is working on releasing by next year might be more mainline. Kim described it as "PUBG-related," meaning it could take the same approach as the battle royale. Of course, it's impossible to say whether or not this upcoming title will be a sequel to PUBG. Until then, Krafton is continuing to support PUBG, with the game in the middle of Season 10. This latest season in the game added a new, dense, urban map and AI-controlled enemies.
