New Guilty Gear Game Announced by Arc System Works at EVO

The creator of the Guilty Gear franchise teased its newest edition at EVO 2019.

August 4, 2019

After the conclusion of the Tekken 7 grand finals at EVO, Daisuke Ishiwatari, the creator of Guilty Gear, introduced a brief teaser trailer for a new Guilty Gear game. The trailer goes by quickly, but it features some beautiful action as well as two new characters for the series. Check it out below.

The first new character looks like another Kiske. He has the same blonde hair, wears the same blue colors with white trim, and wields a long sword that resembles Ky’s. The second character is teased only for a moment. However, he has the clothes, the haircut, and the two swords that we associate with samurai. There’s something sort of grim and maybe even evil about him, though. One of his eyes is clouded, and at the end of the trailer, a mask with a bizarre symbol covers his face.

The trailer raises as many questions as it answers. Unfortunately, Daisuke told the crowd that he could not reveal any more information other than that we will hear more from Guilty Gear in 2020. The Guilty Gear Xrd series has provided some of the best fighting game experiences I’ve ever had–the 2.5D fighting is absolutely gorgeous, the characters are cool and unique, and the mechanics are complicated but rewarding. With this new game, I am hoping we get a brand new story mode, more new characters, and new balance updates. We’ll update you on it as soon as we hear more.

In the meantime, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is available now for PS3, PS4, and PC.
