Bandai Namco announced it will reveal a brand new Gundam game on January 22. The announcement will come with a teaser trailer, and the announcement of this announcement was made in conjunction with new information for Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2, the free-to-play PlayStation 4 game. Basically, Battle Operation 2 will get an announcement on January 21 19:00 JST, which will include a teaser image for the January 22 announcement and reveal its specific time. Yeah, this is confusing.

Bandai Namco, and previously Bandai before the merge, has always been handling the releases of Gundam related games and toys, seeing Sunrise, the studio producing Gundam anime, is one of its subsidiaries. The timing of this new announcement might be a bit peculiar though, as I can't think of a good reason to announce now a new game in any of the popular Gundam game series:

It could be a new Gundam Breaker game, in order to quickly erase from earth the bad aftertaste left by the previous game, New Gundam Breaker, only released 6 months ago. The game had its fair share of problems, and many fans of the franchise kept sticking with Gundam Breaker 3 instead of making the jump.

The last console game of the Vs series, Gundam Versus, released in 2017, and a brand new arcade game, Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. 2 hit Japanese arcades last October. With this in mind, this new game could be a console port of Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. 2.

Yet another possibility would be a new entry in the SD Gundam G Generation series. The latest game, SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, first released on Vita and PlayStation 4, and was later ported to Switch in April 2018.

Another possibility would be the return of a Gundam RPG game, similar to MS Saga: A New Dawn on PlayStation 2. It might be a new Gihren's Greed game too, seeing the last one was for PSP in 2008. Or maybe Bandai Namco will surprise us and announce a brand new type of Gundam video game, but that feels like the least likely announcement. It probably won't be a mobage either, as one for Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans was announced a few days ago.

Or well, maybe I'm thinking too much and it'll just be Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3.

In any case, be sure to tune in on January 22 for your Gundam game fix. And if you end up disappointed by whatever the game turns out to be, there's always Super Robot Wars T coming for Switch and PS4 in English on March 20. The game's second trailer will hit in a few hours too.
