A New Metal Max Game Is in Development; Should Be Revealed Next Summer

The next entry in the tank JRPG series is probably developed by the same team as Metal Max Xeno.

The official Twitter account for Metal Max Xeno revealed that a brand new Metal Max game is currently in development. To celebrate the Japanese one year anniversary of Metal Max Xeno, comments from Director Hiroshi Miyaoka and Producer Juntaro Kouno were published in two different tweets.

The first tweet mentions how Hiroshi Miyaoka is currently brainstorming ideas for a new Metal Max and how we’ll hear more soon.

The second tweet relates how Metal Max Xeno is currently having a sale in Japan to celebrate its first year anniversary. It also includes comments from Producer Juntaro Kouno, saying plans for a new game are in motion, and that if everything goes well, it will be revealed with an official announcement next summer.

While we’ll only know for sure this summer, it’s highly likely this new Metal Max game will retain the same development team as Metal Max Xeno.

The last game in the series, Metal Max Xeno was co-developed by Kadokawa Games, Cattle Call, and 24Frame. The game is out now on PS4 in the west, and on Vita as well only in Japan. Metal Max Xeno celebrated the 25th anniversary of the franchise and was the first console game it got in years.

Metal Max Xeno successfully brought back the series’ recipe of tanks + turn-based JRPG. You can read more about it with our review. We previously interviewed the game’s development team as well.
