Nintendo is known for never lowering the prices on their games for their consoles; even if the consoles themselves are made cheaper. It’s a really weird habit of theirs. In fact, you’ll be hard pressed to find a game as old as Super Smash Bros. Brawl that still has the same price as it did when it launched. Oddly enough, if you walk into a game store right now, they’ll probably want $50 for a new copy of that addictive fighter. This is why the new Nintendo Selects line is a pretty big deal.
On May 20th, Nintendo will launch its ‘selects’ line. Games in the line will receive striking red box art and a new price point. This includes a number of games for the Nintendo Wii and many of them will be the cheapest they’ve ever been: $20. Titles available at launch include: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Supper Sluggers and Wii Sports. Wii Sports wasn’t worth $20 when it dropped in 2006, so why would anyone feel differently about the same game five years later? I don’t know and of course, don’t care. Pick up the old, I mean ‘classic’, game of your choice for cheap on May 20th.
