New Nintendo Switch Model Rumored to Launch in 2020
According to a report from DigiTimes, Nintendo is going to ramp up production on a new Nintendo Switch model for a "mid-2020" release.
According to Taiwanese electronics newspaper DigiTimes, Nintendo is rumored to be starting up production on a new Nintendo Switch model “at the end of first-quarter 2020”. This will reportedly lead to Nintendo launching a new model sometime in “mid-2020”. Of course, this is all speculation at this point. However, it does line up with a report from Wall Street Journal tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki.
This all makes sense, especially in the wake of Nintendo just releasing both the handheld-only Nintendo Switch Lite and the updated Switch with a better battery. Plus, Nintendo has to be looking ahead to the impending launch of both the Xbox Series X and the PS5. If Nintendo were to launch say the “Switch Pro” next fall, it would set them up with a mid-cycle console to compete with the new kids on the market.
However, all of this is pure conjecture. There isn’t much concrete at this point, as you might expect. The DigiTimes report mentions that the new model will have a magnesium alloy body and an updated CPU. Outside of that, we simply don’t know much just yet. That said, with Microsoft and Sony starting to get information about their next consoles out, now feels like the perfect time for Nintendo to announce an update to their popular console.
If Nintendo does announce a “Switch Pro” or something like it, DualShockers will be sure to let you know. With these new consoles on the horizon, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be paying attention to the industry. Stay with us for updates on all the consoles over the coming months.
