If new patents are to be believed, we have new details regarding the next iteration of PlayStation VR.

These patents include details about the headset being wireless, having a five-hour battery life, feature eye-tracking software, and costing $250. Additionally, the headset will have a 2,560 by 1,1440 resolution, a 120hz refresh rate, and a 220-degree field-of-view.

The most recent patent states that the headset will be able to detect where the user’s head is thanks to acceleration and gyro sensors built into the headset. Another aspect of the headset is Foveated Rendering, which increases the fidelity of the graphics a player is looking at, while also lowering the resolution of what they’re not looking at. With these new features, the headset can run at a consistent frame rate where the player can enjoy their play session regardless of how long it is.

As for eye-tracking, it could help make the headset less jarring to use and be more inviting for new players. Additionally, it can help reduce eye strain and make life just a little easier. With this, the days of readjusting your headset after taking it off will be over.

Because these are patents and Sony hasn’t officially said anything, these features could end up on the cutting room floor. As for a potential release date, it could possibly come out in late 2020 alongside the next PlayStation.

Why Ratchet & Clank is the Most Important PS5 Game

Recently, GameStop’s Chief Customer Officer commented on the next-generation consoles. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Jim Ryan has also commented on PlayStation’s interest in acquiring more game studios going forward.

If there are any new updates about the next PSVR headset, we’ll be sure to let you know.
