After more than 20 years, fans of Pokemon Snap on the Nintendo 64 (myself included) finally seem to be getting the sequel that they've been waiting for. New Pokemon Snap will once again bring players on a photo safari to catch 'em all (with their camera), and several new screenshots show the colorful photography journey that awaits players in the new Nintendo Switch title.

During the latest Pokemon Presents broadcast, The Pokemon Company revealed New Pokemon Snap, which seems to be the long-awaited follow-up to the 1999 Nintendo 64 title Pokemon Snap. From the footage shown so far, the game will task players with roaming out to different environments to collect photos of Pokemon in the wild, and appears to span across multiple Pokemon generations.

Alongside the announcement, Nintendo has released several new screenshots from New Pokemon Snap along with some new information on the game. The screenshots are mainly direct-feed images from the announcement trailer, but they still offer a closer look at the game, the different environments that players will explore, and a few of the Pokemon that we'll get to encounter along the way.

According to Nintendo's official website, New Pokemon Snap is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios, which previously worked with Nintendo on titles such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokken Tournament. The website also details that the game "brings the gameplay of the 1999 Pokemon Snap game for the Nintendo 64 system to life on the Nintendo Switch," and will offer "unknown islands to discover and different Pokemon to see." Much like the original Nintendo 64 title, the game will allow players to take pictures of wild Pokemon to fill their PokeDex, while also researching Pokemon in a variety of habitats such as "lush jungles and tropical beaches."

At the moment, there is no official confirmed release date or window for the upcoming title. However, during the Pokemon Presents broadcast The Pokemon Company stated that the game is "coming soon," so hopefully we can expect a release for the game on Switch sometime later this year.

New Pokemon Snap is currently in development for Nintendo Switch. For a closer look at the upcoming game, you can check out the full gallery of new screenshots below:
