SEGA surprised fans of the Sakura Wars series, which has been dormant for quite some time, earlier this year when they revealed that they were working on a new game in the series for the first time in years. The project was aptly given the working title Shin Sakura Taisen, or New Sakura Wars. That being said, little has been heard about the title since, though SEGA did state during their last round of financial results that New Sakura Wars would come out during this fiscal year. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be the case.

Fiscal years last from April 1 to March 31, so it was previously assumed that New Sakura Wars would launch before March 31, 2019. That being said, SEGA released their financial results for the latest quarter today, and in the Forecast of Consolidated Operating Results for Entertainment Contents, New Sakura Wars is nowhere to be seen. While an official announcement has not yet been made by SEGA, its omission from the forecast should make it clear to shareholders and fans alike that the game isn't making that release window.

That being said, SEGA still has plenty of titles releasing in Japan and the west between now and March 31, 2019. You can check out the full list of titles to expect (at least in Japan) below:

  • IDORA PHANTASY STAR SAGA
  • Ryu ga Gotoku ONLINE
  • WONDER GRAVITY
  • ~BEST BUDDY: PINO & GRAVITOR~
  • Readyyy!
  • Revolve8
  • PuyoPuyo eSports
  • Ryu ga Gotoku 4 (PS4)
  • Ryu ga Gotoku 5 (PS4)
  • Football Manager 2019
  • Total War: Three Kingdoms
  • Project JUDGE

While the fact that New Sakura Wars is delayed is disappointing, it isn't very surprising as we still haven't heard much about the game, which would've been odd considering we are five months out from the end of its initial launch window. Hopefully, the wait won't be too long as the last mainline entry released in 2005. Still, I'd rather SEGA focus on polish and quality when developing this title rather than them rushing it out to meet a deadline.

New Sakura Wars isn't the only title to be delayed out of this fiscal year either. SEGA and Sumo Digital recently made the decision to delay Team Sonic Racing for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch out from Winter 2018 until May 21, 2019 in order to deliver a more polished experience.

Of course, you can expect DualShockers to update you if SEGA makes any official announcement regarding the release or the contents of New Sakura Wars. For now, the game is without a release date, though we do know it is coming to the "latest platforms."
