Remember that Final Fantasy Tactics social game that Square Enix announced back in April? Well today Square Enix has released more screenshots and a trailer for Final Fantasy Tactics S, which will be headed for Japan at an unannounced date.

The game works like this: you (the player) are summoned to this game's world because of a power struggle between the light and dark crystals. The player essentially becomes a "clan master" and must put together a party (called a deck), by use of the Recruitment System, in order to defeat the monsters born of this war and restore balance to the world. The social aspect of this game seems to be that you can show off your clan and battle with other players' other clans but the meat of the game, and the source of your income, comes from various quests that need to be completed. The earned currency, known as Gil (to no Final Fantasy fan's surprise), can be used to purchase ingame items and weapons. The game will also include all the classes from both Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, as well as at least two new classes--Air Samurai and Musician so far.

Set to one of the beginning battle themes of Tactics Advance, the trailer shows off some impressive looking battles. From both the video and the screenshots, we can also see that the game uses the simpler art style from the Tactics Advance series and Crystal Defenders instead of the more detailed work of the original Final Fantasy Tactics.
