In the most recent Nintendo Direct, PunchOut!'s Little Mac was confirmed as a newcoming fighter to Nintendo's long-running Super Smash Bros series, and with a new round of screenshots from the latest iteration(s) of the game, it looks like PunchOut! is set for a knockout.

Three new screenshots were released by game director Masahiro Sakurai as Miiverse Pics of the Day from the upcoming Super Smash Bros for Wii U (no 3DS version screenshots this time around, unfortunately) showing off a new stage in the game inspired by PunchOut!. A third screenshot also showed off more of the recently-revealed returning fighter, Diddy Kong.

Appropriately, the new PunchOut! stage is a boxing ring that provides a smaller space for brawling, and most likely will be a great contender for 1v1 matches. In addition, the screenshots showed off two different versions of the stage, one being a version dedicated to PunchOut!, while the other is a more general Smash Bros.-oriented stage, with the Smash Bros. logo on the ring's floor - it's unknown though whether these are two different stages, or different versions that may appear in various game modes of the game.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS releases in 2014 - in the meantime, you can check out the new screenshots from the game below for a taste of some PunchOut!:
