If you haven't heard, the Nintendo Switch has been swapped out with a newer version with much better battery life. Nintendo claimed that it would bolster 4.5 to 9 hours of battery. This would be a significant improvement from the original model that only supported about 2.5 to 6.5 hours. Now that the system is out in the wild, the good folk over at Tom's Guide were able to put it to the test.

They ran an endless 8-player CPU battle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on both the systems. On both games, the AI difficulty was ramped all the way up as well as items just so that the match would be as hectic as possible. On top of that, they turned the brightness to the max and turned auto-brightness and auto-sleep off.

The new version of the Nintendo Switch ran for about 4 hours and 50 minutes before the battery ran out. The old Switch only lasted about 2 hours and 45 minutes before running out. The new version almost doubled the previous Switch!

While I wasn't that interested in picking up a new Switch, I have to admit that these tests do have me a little interested. I am not one to sit and have an incredibly long play session. But having a much longer battery life for a flight or long road trip does sound great.

If you happen to be interested in trading in your old Switch for a new one, you currently can for only $75 at GameStop. I might actually pick one up when The Witcher 3 drops because I would imagine that will drain the battery quite fast.
