The popular magic school novel The Irregular at Magic High School is getting a brand new anime sequel.

The Japanese official Twitter account for The Irregular at Magic High School announced on December 31, 2021, that the anime is getting a new project.

The announcement was made right after The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc was aired on Japanese TV. The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc is often misnamed "Season 3", but it was a TV special adapting a specific part of the original novel. It's now available on Funimation.

The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) new anime project confirmed

While a new The Irregular at Magic High School project was confirmed, we don't know yet whether it's a movie or a TV series. This could be either another movie just like The Girl Who Summons The Stars or an actual "season 3".

The tweet reads: "Anime series "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei" sequel production confirmed! A new Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei anime is in production, look forward to future details!".

The Irregular at Magic High School, known as Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei in Japan, is a light novel series. Written by Tsutomu Sato, with illustrations by Kana Ishida. The original light novel was published by ASCII Media Works in Japan, through Dengeki Bunko. From July 2011 to September 2020.

While the main series ended, new novels are being released by Tsutomu Sato. The latest one was released in January 2021: New – The Irregular at Magic High School Maidens of Cygnus.
