Last month, Star Wars Battlefront II was finally revealed to the world at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. Arguably the biggest feature announced in this sequel was the inclusion of a campaign mode which focuses on a new female Imperial soldier named Iden Versio. Today, a new video was released that talks about EA’s process behind creating both Versio and Battlefront II’s overarching narrative.
For those who don’t know, Battlefront II’s campaign will be considered official Star Wars canon which means there are many more hoops to jump through when creating the narrative. In the video, Lucasfilm creative executive Steve Blank talks about how EA Motive needed to pitch the Lucasfilm team on their idea for the game’s story. The big pitch from EA Motive was centered around the idea of playing as an Imperial rather than the standard “good guys”.
Mark Thompson, the game director from EA Motive, also talked about the importance in showing that Imperial troopers believe they are in the right. He says that his overall goal is to take the audience to a place where they are familiar with Iden and many other characters in the story so that they can understand why they make the decisions that they do. The characters aren’t brainwashed, they believe in what it is they’re doing.
Battlefront II will be showcased next month at EA Play, an event that runs prior to E3 from June 10-12. DualShockers will be in attendance at EA Play and we’re hoping to have hands-on impressions for you to read about at that time. We’ll keep you updated as we near the event.
Until then, check out the video below to hear in more detail about what to expect in the Battlefront II campaign. As a massive Star Wars fan myself, it’s interesting to hear about just how this storyline came together. Star Wars Battlefront II releases later this year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17.
