When there's a demand for more The Witcher content, CD Projekt Red is always happy to supply. That may be why the Polish developer's next title, already confirmed to be set in Witcher-verse, will begin development as soon as Cyberpunk 2077 launches.

In a recent meeting with journalists, as reported by Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red President Adam Kiciński said that some effort has already gone into the studio's next title. "We have already been working on another single-player game; we have created a relatively clear concept that is waiting for further development," said Kiciński via translation. "And this is already happening, although we do not want to spend time at the moment."

Obviously, not much is known about this upcoming Witcher title, as it still seems to be in the conceptual phase. It does seem players will not be filling the shoes of Geralt any more. Kiciński made it clear that this upcoming game wouldn't be titled "The Witcher 4" and that it is "embedded in the Witcher universe. Development of the game is planned to be carried out by two of the developer's smaller teams. The remainder will be directed towards "network mode and additions to Cyberpunk 2077."

This leaves the future of the Witcher series in a good, albeit unclear, place. It's fantastic to know that another game in the series is coming out and that Cyberpunk 2077 won't suffer for it. The murky part is figuring out when this next Witcher title may be releasing. CD Projekt Red has long development cycles, and as we've seen with Cyberpunk 2077, they can be prone to delays. However, it is safe to say that we'll be seeing the return of the Witcher on next-gen consoles.

There is one more thing I can't help but worry about though: the developers over at CD Projekt Red. It's no secret that they are going through crunch to finish Cyberpunk 2077. If any of that team is transitioning over to the smaller Witcher teams, I can only wonder if they'll have a break in between. Now is a good time to remember that there are people behind the games we play, and they have needs too.

Until we get more news on the next Witcher title, we have its Netflix adaptation to hold us off. Not only is the second season supposedly beginning production soon, but an animated movie is also on the way.
