Next Battlefield Game to be a “Military-Style” Shooter According to EA CFO

Battlefield: Hardline might be taking the franchise into the war between criminals and the law this early next year, but that doesn’t mean the series has forgotten about its roots.

EA CFO Blake Jorgensen spoke at the 2014 UBS Global Technology Conference that was attended by GameSpot today, saying that he had already seen the next game in the series that is in development and that it is looking to be a “fun, new Battlefield.” Jorgensen continued, “That will be a return to a Battlefield military-style game; more to come on that.”

This next Battlefield is scheduled to release in 2016, with no major entry in the Battlefield series coming out for this year’s holiday season or 2015’s holiday season. EA will likely be filling that mega-franchise release gap next year with the imminent Star Wars: Battlefront game that will be releasing around the same time as the next entry in the theatrical series.

What do you think of the news of a return to the military-style Battlefield? Would you have rather seen something more akin to Battlefield 2142, especially after Battlefield 4‘s Final Stand DLC teased some similar technology to the future setting shooter?
