Next Generation Esports Announces Overwatch Winter Premiere

on November 23, 2016 9:56 AM

Today, Next Generation Esports (NGE) announced Overwatch Winter Premiere, a multi-month tournament featuring Blizzard Entertainment’s new team-based shooter, Overwatch.

Overwatch Winter Premiere is open to all North American Overwatch teams who register online beforehand, and will start December 10th with 4 day online open qualifiers. The top 8 teams after qualifying will then face off in 3 weeks of Double Round-Robin group play, followed by a 2-day live finals event in January 2017. The prize pool is currently $100,000, however, it’s unclear if this is all for the wining team or if it will be divided up among a certain number of the top teams. My guess is it’s probably the aforementioned.

All online qualifier broadcasts and group play will be streamed directly from NGE studios in Burbank, CA — aka right here nge.io/winterpremiere.

Andy Vander Woude, CEO and co-founder, Next Generation Esports added the following statement in regards to the announcement:

“NGE’s philosophy is to find the most ambitious esports partners and work with them to elevate their shows. That’s why we’re thrilled to work with Blizzard to create an esports experience perfectly matched to Overwatch fans.”
