This morning THQ Inc. announced that they’ll be teaming up with Crytek, the award winning developer behind the Crysis series, to produce the next Homefront title.
Danny Bilson, EVP of Core Games, THQ asserts that working with Crytek will “deliver that AAA-quality experience” that fans of Homefront crave, citing the developer as part of “the industry’s best talent.”
“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” says Founder, CEO, and President of Crytek, Cevat Yerli. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”
The original Homefront title, set in the year 2027 and depicting a broken world quickly depleting its natural resources and teetering on the edge of all-out war, was released in March 2011 to commercial success and rewarded with high scores from the gaming community. The currently unnamed sequel is slated for release on PC and console in THQ’s 2014 fiscal year.
